This Hawaiian Koa wood live edgevase was hand turned by KoaWood Ranch founder Craig Villarrubia. He was part of the entire process, from painstaking cutting the Koa tree to preparing the branch and blank, before placing it on the lathe for shaping. This particular piece was part of the crotch section of the branch. It was a tree that had fallen due to age-related decline. The wood was a bit punky but the level of curl and chatoyancy is off the charts. The piece was finished with Danish oil and beeswax. Craig's work reflects a contemporary take on the traditional Hawaiian Koa calabash bowl.
